Cape Town – EFF leader Julius Malema has warned that South Africa could end up with Democratic Alliance leader John Steenhuisen as president if the ANC continues its “reckless and arrogant” governance.
Malema suggested that a united opposition could oust President Cyril Ramaphosa via a no-confidence motion, with the EFF abstaining from voting for a new president, allowing Steenhuisen to take power.
“I want to warn you that This country will have a white president. This contry will have Steenhuisen as a president if the ANC is going to behave the way it is behaving. Because the motion of no confidence will come, we will vote with the DA, mobilise all those we can mobilise, we vote together with the DA against the president and then when it is time to elect a president, we abstain and the ANC loses,” said Malema.

Speaking at a press briefing in Soweto on April 28, 2025, Malema criticiced the ANC’s leadership and rejected a no-confidence motion against Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana as insufficient, arguing that Ramaphosa is the root of the country’s issues.
He accused the National Treasury of being a captured institution protecting apartheid-era interests and proposed moving budgeting functions to political leadership.
Malema also claimed that all major South African political parties, except the EFF, are controlled by white interests and warned that the ANC only seeks EFF support in crises, predicting their eventual loss of power.
