Cape Town – The reality TV show Isencane Lengane, aired on Moja Love, has sparked significant controversy and public outcry.
The show follows the lives of Siyacela Dlamuka and Thando Msomi — a young couple who married as teenagers — and has been accused of glorifying abuse and toxic relationships for entertainment.
The latest episode drew sharp criticism for its portrayal of Siyacela’s behaviour. He was seen hurling insults at his wife over his decision to take a second wife and clashing with elders, further fuelling viewers’ outrage.
This is not the first time the show has faced backlash; past episodes have depicted instances of domestic violence and infidelity, with Siyacela admitting to physical violence against Thando.
Activist groups and viewers have taken to social media to demand the show’s cancellation, accusing it of perpetuating gender-based violence (GBV) and emotional abuse.
Abuse is not entertainment. Trauma is not a storyline.

Organisations like Women for Change have condemned the show, saying, “Abuse is not entertainment. Trauma is not a storyline.”
Many argue that the show exploits real-life struggles for ratings, rather than using its platform to educate or empower.
“We shouldn’t be watching the abuse and mistreatment of Thando on TV. This is NOT entertainment. #IsencaneLengane” wrote mbali_ndlela
