Cape Town – Watch live as the Western Cape High Court hears a case brought by the DA and EFF, challenging the National Assembly’s recent approval of a 0.5% VAT increase.
Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has warned that reversing the tax hike would blow a hole in the budget, forcing the state to borrow more and weakening the country’s fiscal discipline.
He insists there’s no realistic alternative to the increase.
