Johannesburg – Johannesburg Emergency Services reported no major incidents despite torrential rain causing flash floods in some areas.
The South African Weather Service (Saws) had warned of severe thunderstorms and flooding.
Motorists were urged to exercise caution due to wet and slippery roads.

Severe weather is expected to continue across Gauteng, Limpopo, Mpumalanga, and KwaZulu-Natal, with Johannesburg Emergency Services remaining on high alert. Residents in low-lying areas were advised to avoid crossing flooded roads and streams.
Saws issued a yellow level 2 warning for thunderstorms and disruptive rain in multiple provinces, including Limpopo, Mpumalanga, the Free State, North West, and KZN, with risks of localised flooding on Thursday.

“Our motorists are urged to continue to exercise caution while driving. Avoid crossing flooded roads and low-lying bridges. Our residents, who are residing mostly in our low-lying areas, are urged to avoid crossing river streams while conducting their daily activities, The Citizen quoted Johannesburg Emergency Services spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi as saying.
“From our side is the city of Johannesburg, we remain on high alert, monitoring all seven regions of the city, together with our specialized team, which is our aquatic rescue unit, which is a special team, which responds to water-related emergencies,” Mulaudzi said.
Additionally, extreme fire danger was warned for Hantam Municipality in the Northern Cape.
