Cape Town – A suspect has reportedly been arrested in connection with the fatal shooting of community safety patrollers in Soshanguve, Gauteng, which has claimed six lives.
Police Minister Senzo Mchunu, speaking at the crime scene on Tuesday, confirmed the arrest and revealed that the suspect is in the country illegally, The Citizen reported.
Authorities also recovered an unlicensed firearm, which is now undergoing forensic testing.
Mchunu addressed the families of the deceased, as investigations continue into the tragic attack at the Marry Me Informal Settlement over the weekend.
Meanwhile, according to EWN, the death toll from Saturday’s attack has climbed to six after another victim succumbed to injuries on Tuesday morning.
The victims were patrolling when the altercation occurred on Saturday morning.

According to police spokesperson Brigadier Brenda Muridili, officers responded to the crime scene at around 06:00, where they found four bodies with gunshot wounds, some partially burned.
Witnesses reported that eight other victims were rushed to hospital in private vehicles and ambulances.
“Preliminary investigations suggests that at about 03:00, a group of community based patrollers were converging to continue with their patrols when they noticed five people on the street.
“When the group approached the five, a quarrel broke which ended with four dead and eight injured,” Muridili said.
