Cape Town – A tragic incident occurred at Tzaneen Dam in Limpopo on Sunday when a man, later identified as Phillie Vhuma, 48, drowned after throwing himself into the water.
According to police spokesperson Lieutenant Colonel Stephen Thakeng, the incident occurred around 7:00 am when an eyewitness, who was doing morning physical training, saw a man standing on top of the bridge at Tzaneen Dam.
The man, described as wearing a yellow t-shirt and dark pants, appeared to be contemplating something before jumping into the dam.
“After an hour, he saw the male person jumping into the dam, struggling to swim and ultimately drowned,” Thakeng said.

The police were notified, and the SAPS Search and Rescue Team was dispatched to the scene to recover the body.
Vhuma was later identified by his next of kin.
An inquest case has been registered, and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the death are ongoing.
