A new ZAR30 billion state-of-the-art cement factory is planned for the Western Cape province in South Africa.
According to BusinessTech, local cement producer PPC has signed a memorandum of agreement with Chinese firm Sinoma Overseas Development Company to build the plant at one of PPC’s existing sites in the province. targeting customers in the Western, Eastern and Northern Cape regions.
The plant, which is forecast to produce 1.5 million tons of cement a year, will also feature solar power generation.
The company says the new plant technology ‘will result in substantial improvements in energy efficiency, reduced coal consumption and lower emissions per ton of cement produced’, as well as lower production costs, which will benefit the end users.
With feasibility studies already under way, construction could start as soon as Q2:2025, with commissioning expected at the end of 2026.
