Cape Town – The US embassy has provided an update on the country’s refugee admissions process under Executive Order 14204, claiming that Afrikaners in South Africa are facing racial discrimination and may be eligible for resettlement opportunities.
This announcement follows President Donald Trump’s Executive Order addressing the alleged unfair treatment of Afrikaners, particularly in light of concerns over land expropriation.
In a statement released on Tuesday, the embassy confirmed that it is conducting an ongoing review to assess the eligibility of Afrikaner individuals for refugee status.

“Consistent with President Trump’s Executive Order on Addressing Egregious Actions of the Republic of South Africa, the US Department of State is coordinating with the Department of Homeland Security and implementing partners to consider eligibility for US refugee resettlement for disfavored ethnic minority Afrikaners in South Africa who are victims of unjust racial discrimination,” the statement read.
Trump’s actions were prompted by the South African government’s Expropriation Act, which he argues unfairly targets white South Africans.
The embassy’s move to offer resettlement follows a suspension of financial aid to South Africa, accusing the government of policies that undermine equality and fuel violence.
