Cape Town – Eskom has announced the suspension of Stage 3 load shedding from 10am on Sunday, ahead of the initial schedule, after recovering over 3,000MW of generation capacity and replenishing emergency reserves.
The power utility reported that Kusile Power Station’s coal operations are now optimal, and previously offline units are back in service. Progress on Koeberg Unit 2’s recovery is also underway, with Eskom assuring its safety.
“After the recovery of more than 3 000MW of generation capacity and replenishment of sufficient emergency reserves in the past 44 hours, loadshedding will be suspended today at 10:00.
“Coal operations at Kusile Power Station are at optimal levels. All units that were offline as of Friday are now back in service. Progress on the recovery of Koeberg Unit 2 is well underway.Eskom reassures the public that Koeberg Unit 2 remains safe,” the power utility said in a statement.

Planned maintenance for winter preparations continues, and Eskom remains confident that load shedding is mostly behind due to structural improvements in power generation. Efforts are ongoing to restore 4,091MW by Monday, with further updates to follow if needed.
