Cape Town – The 2025 budget has reportedly been approved after Deputy President Paul Mashatile and the National Treasury presented options that convinced the Cabinet to proceed.
According to IOL, Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana has been tasked with finalising the budget while balancing fiscal constraints, economic growth, and the impact on households.
The budget faced delays after Cabinet twice rejected previous versions, including one with a proposed 2% VAT hike, which was opposed by the Democratic Alliance (DA) and other parties in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
President Cyril Ramaphosa intervened by forming a ministerial team to address disagreements.
The final budget will be tabled in Parliament on March 12.
