Cape Town – Rea Vaya bus services remain suspended for a second day after two drivers were shot and killed in Soweto on Monday.
Police are investigating the motives behind the attacks.
All 58 bus stations are closed, leaving commuters stranded and searching for alternative transport, EWN reported on Wednesday.
The City of Johannesburg is working with law enforcement and the taxi industry to develop a safety plan, including police escorts for bus drivers, the report said.
However, no timeline for the service’s resumption has been announced.
According to SABC News, the drivers were shot by unidentified attackers while waiting at a traffic light on Wild Chestnut Street.
Gauteng police spokesperson Dimakatso Nevhuhulwi said that the motive for the shooting remains unclear, but investigations are ongoing.
“The motive for the shooting is unknown at this stage, and the police are following up on all leads as the investigation continues,” the report quoted him as saying.
