Cape Town — Police in Kwa-Zulu Natal (KZN) are on the hunt for five suspects who allegedly killed four people and injured a further four in a tavern in Sundumbili on Monday night.
It is believed that two off-duty police officers were among the four killed. Following the incident, police closed the tavern and confiscated all liquor as it was believed the establishment was operating illegally, TimesLIVE reported.
Police spokesperson, Colonel Robert Netshiunda, said the deceased were drinking at the tavern when a fight broke out between a police officer and a group of five men. The argument had been resolved and the cop even bought drinks for the five men.

“Later the other constable had another scuffle with the same five men outside the tavern which allegedly resulted in the constable being shot. The bleeding constable reportedly ran back into the tavern with the suspects following him while they allegedly continued shooting randomly at everyone inside the tavern,” Netshiunda said.
According to News24, Netshiunda said during the shooting incident, three people were shot and killed at the scene, including the police constable.
Netshiunda said the other police officer was rushed to hospital after he was shot but was announced dead on arrival. A further four people were shot and rushed to hospital with injuries.
He said the motive for the shooting was unknown and police have appealed to the public for information about the incident or the whereabouts of the perpetrators.
