Cape Town – The witness gunned down outside the Lenasia Magistrates Court on Tuesday morning has been identified as Ashwin Mouwers from Eldorado Park.
Mouwers was due to testify in a 2021 Eldorado Park murder trial.
While smoking outside the court with another witness, two suspects opened fire, targeting the pair.
Mouwers attempted to escape but was fatally shot at point-blank range.
“The case was set for trial today. The information that we got is that two witnesses in this case were standing outside the court when they were accosted by two armed suspects who started shooting at them without saying a word. For now, we have launched a manhunt for those two suspects and we have opened a case of murder,” police spokesperson, Colonel Mavela Masondo told Newzroom Afrika.
AshwinMouwers was shot and killed outside the Lenasia Magistrate’s Court where he was anticipated to give evidence.
The deceased was shot four times.

The police have launched an investigation, including examining the accused’s possible involvement.
According to EWN, police have also seized the accused’s cell phone for further scrutiny.
“Police are appealing to anyone who might have information that can help in the investigation or assist in the apprehension of the suspects to please call the nearest police station or call crime stop on 08600 10111,” Masondo said.
