Cape Town — The uMkhonto weSiziwe (MK) Party leader, Jacob Zuma, announced that he received a letter of resignation from the party’s Treasurer General, Dr Thanti Mthanti.
In a statement, Mthanti tendered his resignation as Treasurer General of the party with immediate effect.
“After much reflection, I have concluded that stepping down from my roles – Treasurer General of the MK Party, Convenor of High Command deployed in the Western Cape and Chair of the Communications Sub-Committee – is in the best interest of the organisation,” Mthanti said.
Mthanti said his decision was taken on the need to balance his personal responsibilities and professional commitments and said the MK party needed a full-time Treasurer General to lead the party effectively through this pivotal phase of its growth.
“I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to you, Mr President, for the trust and opportunities extended to me during my tenure as a member of the National High Command and Treasurer General,” he said.
He thanked the staff of his office and took pride in the collective achievements so far and said it was an honour to work alongside committed and passionate individuals striving for the betterment of South Africa.

“I remain steadfast in my commitment to the principles outlined in the MK Party’s constitution and our founding manifesto, the people’s mandate,” he said, adding that he will remain an ordinary member of the National High Command.
Zuma’s office issued a statement and thanked Mthanti for his years of service and extended his appreciation to Mthanti for his contributions to the party.
“The president has magnanimously accepted the resignation which is effective immediately. His decision to step down has been made after careful reflection and in consideration of his professional commitments,” Zuma said.
Zuma said Mthanti served the party with unwavering dedication and has been an astute leader in different roles, including the Convenor of the National High Command deployed to the Western Cape and Chair of the Communications Sub-Committee.
“He will remain a valued member of the National High Command as the President continues to assign him various advisory tasks, including helping to set up financial control systems,” Zuma said.
The MK Party is currently in the process of identifying a suitable successor to Mthanti.
