Cape Town — Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, said the mass exodus of key figures has not impacted the party and it remains strong ahead of 2025.
The EFF faced many hardships during 2024 in what proved to be a difficult year for the party. The EFF had a disappointing 2024 elections as the party lost out to Jacob Zuma’s uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party as the 3rd-biggest party in South Africa.
To add insult to injury, following the elections, the party lost some key figures to the MK Party, including Floyd Shivambu, Dali Mpofu and Busisiwe Mkhwebane, who viewed the MK Party as a more interesting project.
Malema has been unable to avoid questions about the departures, especially Floyd’s as he left while holding the EFF Deputy President position. Malema was also disappointed with Mpofu and the comments he’s made since leaving the party.

During an interview on Power To Truth with JJ Tabane on eNCA, Malema said the party was in good spirits ahead of the new year and he said Shivambu and Mpofu left no void when they left the party.
“They have no influence. Did you see that NPA, do you feel any vacuum? Did you feel like something is missing because so and so is not there? This animal is bigger than individuals. They have no impact. What impact will Dali Mpofu have?” he said.
Tabane asked him whether Shivambu and Mpofu had any impact on the organisation in the past 10 or 11 years, but Malema said it was all for nothing. When Tabane asked him to write a chapter in a book about their impact, he did not mince his words.
“The heading will be two betrayers, that will be heading of the chapter and that’s what they contribute in that book. The ideas in the EFF are collective ideas. We came up with this idea of forming the EFF. So what? It is insignificant who formed it, who came up with the idea and all of that. This thing belongs to us. The idea of individuals dwindles into insignificance once a collective decision is taken. So whatever 11 years you want to talk about, cannot be attributed to any individual,” he added.
