Cape Town – Messages of condolence continue to flood social media following the tragic death of Queen Khoisan SA, Cynthia Triegardt, 54, in a car accident near Noupoort and Colesberg on Friday.
Preliminary investigations indicate that a burst tyre caused the car to overturn, according to police spokesperson Sergeant Timothy Sam.
Among the five occupants of the vehicle was Triegardt’s husband, Driegaat, also known as King Khoisan SA, who sustained serious injuries and is recovering in hospital.

Three other passengers, including Triegardt’s son, also suffered injuries ranging from minor to severe.
Speaking from his hospital bed, Driegaat expressed gratitude for surviving the accident.
“When the car rolled and I was falling around, I just said: “Lord, you brought me this far. I have a mission, and it’s not over yet. Someone looked over me, and I think the Lord said I can’t go now. I still have a few things to do, but I’m grateful to be one who survived.
“I tried to hide under the dashboard. I thought I was going to die, but now I have another chance to complete my calling,” Netwerk24, quoted him as saying.
While in pain, he acknowledged the tragic loss of his wife.
“I understand my wife is no longer with us, but I don’t have the details yet. I haven’t gone to see her yet, but I was informed of her passing,” he said.

The couple was travelling to Pretoria from Gqeberha ahead of an eviction deadline at the Union Buildings, where Driegaat and others have camped for over seven years to protest the lack of recognition and rights for the Khoisan people.
Driegaat has been advocating for Khoisan recognition as South Africa’s First Nation, official status for their languages, and the return of their land.
The eviction order allows authorities to demolish the temporary structures on the Union Buildings’ lawns if protesters do not leave voluntarily.
Driegaat vowed to resist removal, stating, “If they remove us by force, it will create both national and international havoc.”
“If they remove us by force, it will create both national and international havoc. We will continue to go around this country, speaking about the government’s injustice against the Khoisan people,” he said, according to IOL.
Following Triegardt’s death, messages of condolence poured in from supporters, with many paying tribute to her dedication to the Khoisan cause.
Social media users described her as a courageous figure whose sacrifice will not be forgotten.
