Cape Town — Queen Ntokozo KaMayiselaZulu, the first wife of Zulu King, King Misuzulu kaZwelithini, filed an urgent court interdict to prevent her husband’s wedding to his third wife.
In her application, KaMayiselaZulu said a meeting had been set up to discuss the said marriage that her husband wishes to enter into but the meeting was postponed to a date in February, until after the wedding is set to take place.
“I humbly submit that the Respondent will suffer no prejudice if this order is granted as he can still take a second once the law allows,” she said.
She confirmed that King Misuzulu served her with divorce papers lodged in an honourable court, but he cannot get married until the divorce is finalised as she is still married in the community of property.
“I confirm that my husband has approached another woman and proposed marriage, which the woman accepted. I confirm that my husband has begun arranging to marry the said woman and has even set a date for the said wedding and/or marriage,” she said.

“I humbly submit that the responded herein cannot enter into (a) a civil marriage and (b) a customary marriage whilst our civil marriage still subsists,” she added.
According to IOL, a senior member of the royal family, Prince Mazwi Zulu, who is aligned with the king’s half-brother, Prince Simakade Zulu, lashed out at the king for undermining the Zulu culture by divorcing his wife without medication, a cultural practice that has saved African marriages for many years.
He said that, in Zulu culture, the king must lead by example and protect the culture that has bound and saved collapsed marriages.
