Cape Town — Royal AM Football Club owner, Shauwn Mkhize, known as MaMkhize, has apologised to the players of her club regarding the reports of players’ non-payment.
It has been a tough few weeks for Mkhize and she has now come under scrutiny after reports emerged that the clubs’ players were absent from training due to unpaid salaries. The players allegedly decided not to report to training until their unpaid December salaries are settled, The South African reported.
The club released a statement on Instagram where Mkhize issued an apology to the players and set the record straight regarding the non-payment.
“Royal AM Football Club wishes to address the unfortunate situation regarding the non-payment of salaries for December 2024, affecting our valued players, technical team, and staff. We acknowledged the hardship this has caused and extend our heartfelt apologies to those impacted, including their families,” Mkhize said.
The club is currently under the curatorship following a preservation obtained by SARS. This resulted in the temporary appointment of a curator, Jaco Venter, to oversee the club’s assets and operations. The club has tried to get funding for salary payments.
“It has always been the ethos of Royal AM to prioritise the well-being of our personnel, and we remain dedicated to upholding that principle despite the current challenges,” Mkhize added.
She thanked the players and staff for their patience and thanked fans for their continued support and trust.,
“Royal AM is committed to preserving the integrity of the club and ensuring its long-term success. We remain optimistic that this situation will be resolved soon and we will w provide timely updates as soon as developments unfold,” she concluded.
