Cape Town — Tributes are pouring in across social media for former South African musician Winnie Khumalo, who tragically passed away on Monday at the age of 51.
According to SABC News, the family confirmed that Winnie died following a short illness.
“As the Khumalo family, we would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the entire country for the support during this difficult time. We are truly devastated and deeply saddened,” said Tshepi Akeepile, Khumalo’s sister and family representative.
The family had believed Khumalo’s health was improving, but in the early hours of Monday morning, she reported feeling unwell. She was rushed to the hospital, where she was tragically declared dead on arrival.

According to EWN, Khumalo was an award-winning musician who signed with record label, Kalawa Jazzmee.
She started her music career aged 15 and was a household name due to her distinctive voice and popular dance moves. Some of her biggest hits include ‘Live my lufe’ and Kulezontaba’
Winnie’s last musical offering was in 2023, with a rich legacy that will remembered for generations.
Tributes poured in from all over South Africa for the fallen icon, including fans and fellow musicians.
