Cape Town – The Border Management Authority (BMA) says the Beitbridge border post is prepared for the influx of travellers returning to South Africa as the festive season concludes.
According to EWN, BMA Commissioner Dr Mike Masiapato said the BMA is ready to ensure safe and lawful travel.
Masiapato visited the border on January 2 to oversee operations, as travel volumes are expected to increase significantly.
He said that the port has made specific demarcations to process small vehicles, buses, and taxis efficiently.

“We can indicate that we did complete first leg on the 31st of December 2024, and from the first of January 2025, we are fairly ready now to start receiving the people into South Africa coming from the rest of the continent at Beitbridge port of entry. I can indicate that inside the port we have made demarcations where we are going to be processing all the small vehicles, processing all the people coming on public transport like busses and taxis,” SABC News quoted Masiapato as saying.
Authorities, in collaboration with the police, are on high alert to prevent stolen or hijacked vehicles from crossing the border.
Measures include verifying vehicles, especially those under financing, to ensure compliance with exit requirements.
