Cape Town – The Western Cape Department of Health and Wellness is investigating an alleged incident at Karl Bremer Hospital, where a security guard was filmed dragging a patient across the floor.
The disturbing footage, shared on social media, shows the patient, who had arrived bleeding, being handled roughly by the security guard, who referred to the patient as a “bother”.
The hospital condemned the incident and expressed deep concern, emphasising its commitment to patient dignity and respect.
“Karl Bremer Hospital deeply regrets the filmed incident circulating on social media, in which a patient was handled by one of the security guards at the facility.
“We are deeply concerned by this matter and are committed to upholding the dignity and respect of all our patients,” The Citizen quoted Communications Officer for the Department of Health and Wellness Western Cape Government Megan Davids as saying.
An investigation is underway, with both the hospital and the contracted service provider taking internal actions to address the situation, the report said.
