Cape Town — The African National Congress (ANC) has noted and welcomed the outcomes of the Mozambique election results by the Constitutional Council.
“As a long-standing ally and partner of the people of Mozambique, the ANC reaffirms its respect for the constitutional processes and institutions that safeguard democracy in our region,” ANC spokesperson, Mahlengu Bhengu-Motshiri, said in a statement.
Bhengu-Motshiri called on all political parties, stakeholders and citizens in Mozambique to respect the outcome of the elections and prioritise unity and national development,
“This is a crucial moment to rise above divisions and work collectively to address the socio-economic challenges facing the nation,” Bhengu-Motsiri said.
The party said dialogue, mutual respect, and a steadfast commitment to the will of the people was important for renewing the people of Mozambique. It hoped to strenghten ties between Frelimo and the ANC and was of mutual benefit to foster economic growth for the shared prosperity of both countries.
“South Africa and Mozambique share a deep history rooted in the struggle for liberation and the pursuit of peace and prosperity for all. The ANC remains committed to deepening these ties and working closely with Mozambique’s elected leadership to promote regional integration, economic development and peace across our contient,” Bhengu-Motsiri added.
The party was of the belief that strong democratic institutions and cooperations are key to achieving peace, prosperity and improved standard of living for the people of Mozambique.
