Cape Town — South African motorists have been urged to travel with caution over the festive period after seven people died in a crash on the N3 in Mpumalanga on Monday morning.
In a statement, the Mpumalanga Provincial Government revealed that a Hyundai H1 minibus was overturned. Along with the seven deaths, two people sustained serious injuries and three more people were injured slightly.
“The injured were rushed to the nearby Frankfort Hospital in the Free State. The deceased were all passengers. The indications are that the kombi was travelling from Gauteng to KwaZulu Natal,” the department said.

The department said the cause of the crash remains unclear but an investigation is currently underway. Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Jackie Macie, urged motorists to use the road with caution at all times.
He said drivers need to adjust their driving in accordance with prevailing conditions on the road, including limited visibility.
“It is deeply saddening to see such an abrupt end to other people’s lives when they were supposed to celebrate the holiday season with their loved ones. All road users must always prioritize their lives and that of others by being extremely cautious,” added the MEC.
He also wished those who were injured a speedy recovery.
