Cape Town — Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) MP, Mbuyiseni Ndlozi, has come to the defence of the party’s leader, Julius Malema, who was cited as this year’s ‘biggest loser’.
In a recent article by the Sunday Times, Malema had plenty of reasons to be upset this year and was described as the “biggest loser of the year.”
“EFF leader Julius Malema lost friends, allies and electoral support in what has proven one of the most difficult years of his political career,” the article read.
Among the other topics included the EFF’s poor performance during the 2024 general elections, its exclusion from the Government of National Unity (GNU) and that many of Malema’s allies jumped ship to the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) party.
In response, Ndlozi had strong words against the article and strongly denied that Malema or the EFF were the biggest losers, but in fact it was the African National Congress (ANC) after it failed to maintain its majority rule.
“Despicable! ANC is the LOSER of the year! Even they know that! ANC dropped by 17 points ANC Lost 3 of 8 provinces they controlled! This is the historic loss an honest journalistic paper will record,” he said
“But no, you choose to be petty, personal & decidedly bias. The public benefits NOTHING from so degenerate an analysis, with a self-stupefaction of idiotic proportions. Journalism should do better for public discourse and engagement!” he added.

Ndlozi’s absence from the EFF’s National Conference was a hot topic and Malema chose not to address any questions on the matter. Malema later said that anyone who was not at the National Conference was not meant to be there.
“Whoever is not here, was not supposed to be here, from the beginning. So, you are not going to reduce this organisation to some individual. We are going to refuse that,” Malema said.
Ndlozi broke his silence on the matter and chose not to address Malema’s comments, but instead, he offered words of congratulations to the new members of the EFF leadership.
“Congratulations to the newly elected leadership. We wish them strength and wisdom. Remember the duty to always conduct ourselves honestly and honourably in dealing with the EFF and the broader public. May you lead us all with dignity!” he said on X.

According to The Citizen, Ndlozi has not been seen in public for some time and reports suggested he was banned from participating in any EFF activities. He has no position of power in the party, except as an MP.
Political analyst, Ntsikelelo Breakfast, said Ndlozi finds himself stuck between a rock and a hard place.
“I am sure there have been people in the MK that have contacted him. It is difficult to see how this will go,” Breakfast said.
“Malema and his crew don’t want the guy. I think he is leaving soon because he is not wanted,” he added.
