Cape Town — The Border Management Authority (BMA) will visit the Mananga Port of Entry today to assess its readiness to deal with the increasing number of people set to travel between South Africa and Eswatini.
The route has been identified as an important one for travellers following the disruptions at the Lebombo border post in Mpumalanga between South Africa and Mozambique, SABC News reported.
The BMA’s Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Mmemme Mogotsi said the Mananga border post was important for those who are also travelling to Mozambique.
“The aim of the visit is to assess the state of readiness for the port to manage increased movement during this period. Commissioner Masiapato will be joined by Deputy Commissioner Jane Thupane, Chief of Immigration in Eswatini, and members of Interpol amongst others,” Mogotsi said.
The Mananga Port of Entry will be an important diversion route for travellers trying to reach Mozambique, in the event of potential disruptions at the Lebombo Post ahead of the announcement of the results of the Mozambican Constitutional Court on Monday 23 December.
The BMA said approximately 150 Mozambican nationals were arrested and deported at Lebombo. As a result, many truck drivers have been left stranded trying to enter and leave Mozambique due to the unrest.
There remains great uncertainty among the truck drivers who want to get home to their families for the festive holidays.
