Cape Town — Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, praised his late grandmother as a reason for his unwavering dedication to the EFF, and he remains committed to making the party a success.
Malema cried as he thanked his late grandmother Koko Sarah for protecting him as a guardian angel during difficult times and attacks, particularly when he wanted to give up.
“I would like to thank my late grandmother, who remains my guardian angel. Even in moments when I feel like giving up and surrendering due to attacks and difficulties from being attacked within, it was my grandmother’s guiding wisdom that kept me going,” he said.
Malema concluded his more than three-hour political report at the EFF’s National People’s Assembly (NPA) on Friday by describing how his resilience was sustained by his grandmother.
“She is the one who named me her soldier, and as a result, I have become a soldier of the people. Her courage motivates me to remain committed to this movement adn the struggle of economic freedom during this lifetime,” he said.
Malema added that his grandmother’s solid courage continues to inspire him not to give up on the EFF. Delegates attending the third elective conference vowed to continue supporting their leader and ensuring that the EFF was not down and out.

Malema also promised not to disappoint his grandmother and keep her legacy alive.
“I honour her memory and strive never to disappoint her, even as she watches over me from heaven. For this reason, I will never abandon this movement. She entrusted me with the role of being a father figure and a parent to the destitute and forgotten masses of our people,” he said,
Malema also thanked his family and friends for supporting him during his political career.
I extend my appreciation to my family, my children and all my family and friends, who suffered the consequences of my activism. They experience the same pressure as I do due to our actions as an organisation, yet they have stood behind me,” he said.
“Their firm support is a testament to me that it is possible for black people to build strong families and place love at the centre of their lives,” he added.
He also thanked the EFF members including the leadership for holding down the party in all corners of the country and for their commitment to him and the party.
“Since my youth, there has been an unrelenting effort to demoralise and discourage me, to tire me out, and force me to concede defeat to the establishment. However, the faith you have placed in me keeps me going. They will never succeed because I will never sacrifice my life for anyone other than the EFF and the revolution,” he said.
Malema vowed loyalty to the party, declaring: “The highest honour you can bestow upon me is to have my coffin wrapped in the red flag of the EFF.”
Concluding his address, Malema invoked the words of Martin Luther King Jr.: “In the end, we will remember not the words of our enemies, but the silence of our friends.”
