Cape Town – South African Football Association (Safa) president Danny Jordaan appeared in the Specialised Commercial Crime Court in Palm Ridge, Johannesburg on Tuesday, to appeal his arrest and the raid on his home amid allegations of misusing R1.3 million in association funds.
Jordaan, Safa CFO Gronie Hluyo, and businessman Trevor Neethling face fraud charges and are out on R20,000 bail each.
Superfan Joy “Mama Joy” Chauke attended court to support Jordaan, calling for patience and urging critics to “hands off” until the court determines his guilt or innocence.
In a post shared on X from an account bearing her name, she suggested charges against Safa president should be dropped but offered no rationale for her stance.
“Supporting My President at Palm Ridge Magistrate court ,,,, I still say ,,,, Hands off My President Danny Jordaan ,,,, Am asking Court to drop the charges,,,, have Patience and wait for court to prove that he is guilty ,,, For now ,,, Hands off,” she wrote.
Additionally, the court is set to consider whether Jordaan’s legal team has a conflict of interest, as claimed by the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), The Citizen reported.
“The state alleges that the lawyer representing Mr Jordaan is conflicted and we may be bringing such evidence before the court and then the court can then take a decision,” the report quoted National Prosecuting Authority (NPA) Spokesperson Phindi Mjonondwane as saying.
If upheld, Jordaan may need to seek new representation, the report said.
