Cape Town – Former police minister Bheki Cele says he is “scared of nobody” despite receiving multiple threats since leaving office in June.
In an interview with SABC News, he described incidents such as a break-in at his home and being followed by suspicious vehicles.
“I have reported to the police. I have seen the cars that are following me, and I’ve reported it to the [KwaZulu-Natal] provincial commissioner. At one time, he sent people to the house at about 1am because there was a break-in at the house,” Cele said.

Although suspects were not arrested, stolen items were recovered after being discarded during a police chase, he said.
Cele acknowledged that his position was risky but accepted the dangers, noting that his security detail was not extended voluntarily after he left office.
He also highlighted the need for ongoing protection for security cluster officials who deal with dangerous criminals.
Cele suggested that the police should focus on targeting major criminals rather than small-time offenders.
