Cape Town — The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has condemned a fake news statement that had been circulating on social media, claiming the party was disappointed by the actions of party leader, Julius Malema.
The EFF posted the alleged statement on X with a big stamp that reads “FAKE NEWS” over the post.
The party said it was disappointed that the fake news was shared, which may have caused disruption and chaos amongst party supporters.
“The EFF condemns the spread of fake news being circulated in our name. Official communication from the EFF is issued only through our verified platforms. We urge the public to remain vigilant and reject misinformation,” the party said.

The statement looks eerily similar to many of the party’s usual announcements, featuring the EFF logo, date stamps, and the contact details of the party’s spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys.
“The president’s uniformed decisions, driven by fear and emotion have led to the departure of many of our valued leaders. This has created a vacuum and atmosphere of uncertainty which threatens the fabric of our movement,” the statement read.
The statement also urged the supporters to remain patient and calm as the party navigates this difficult period, adding that it would address the issues internally but if it did not receive satisfactory answers from Malema, it would reevaluate the position within the party.
“We did not join this movement to serve the interests of one individual; we joined to serve the greater food and to fight for the rights and dignity of our people,” it added.
