Cape Town – South Africa’s official unemployment rate dropped to 32.1% in the third quarter, a decrease from 33.5% in the previous quarter.
This is the first decline in a year, with significant job gains in six out of ten sectors, especially in community and social services, Statistics South Africa said.

This improvement reflects the addition of approximately 294,000 jobs across various sectors, with the exception of private households, which saw a loss of 32,000 jobs.
However, the expanded definition of unemployment, which includes discouraged workers, showed a rate of 41.9%, down from 42.6% in the second quarter.
