Cape Town – EFF MP Carl Niehaus has publicly supported Julius Malema’s stance amid recent defections from the EFF to Jacob Zuma’s new MK party.
This came after Advocate Dali Mpofu became the latest prominent figure to leave the EFF, announcing he has joined the MK Party.
Following in the footsteps of Floyd Shivambu and Busisiwe Mkhwebane, Mpofu’s departure reflected ongoing shifts among high-profile EFF members towards the Zuma-led MK Party.
In an exclusive interview with SABC News, Mpofu discussed his reasons for the move.
“After a lot of soul searching, I’ve taken a decision that I will be joining MK. I’m joining MK because I believe that is the vehicle through which we will achieve the much-needed black and progressive unity so I’m doing so not necessarily to reject any other organisation but at this point in time, in November 2024, I am of the view that the vehicle through which we should drive that unity is uMkhonto we Sizwe,” he said.
He added that he had not yet spoken to EFF leader, Julius Malema, as he felt there was no need to explain his actions but, as a courtesy, he would inform of his decision after his announcement. Mpofu added that there was nothing personal in his decision, nor did he do so to go against any particular person.
“It’s something I’m doing for my people,” he said.
Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Niehaus reassured Malema, urging him not to be concerned about members who are leaving the EFF.
“Thank you my CIC, President Julius S Malema, we will follow your clear and principled leadership. Let the betrayers leave, we are better off without them. I for one am going nowhere.

“I have made a clear, and unequivocal choice for the EFF South Africa. The EFF is the only revolutionary home I can have,” he wrote.
Malema, meanwhile, appeared unfazed, noting other potential defections.
“Only two of your favourites remain and the list will be finalised. They sing beautifully and are always willing to pose for pictures and sign roll calls, but remember, their souls are long gone.
“To prevent any potential hurt, it’s crucial to heed the guidance of the leadership. We remain standing and are not going anywhere under a criminal syndicate,” Malema wrote on X.
