Cape Town – The Department of Home Affairs in South Africa is considering a “premium” delivery option to streamline access to essential documents.
This service would enable citizens to pay for home delivery, avoiding in-person visits, reports said.
While not intended to speed up processing, it would offer added convenience. Currently, the premium service remains in the planning stage, with full details and pricing yet to be announced.
“I just want to be clear. The premium service is not about ‘fast-tracking’ service, it is about introducing delivery options,” he explained.
“What we can indicate, however, is that doorstep delivery of Home Affairs documents is one important element of our five-year vision to deliver Home Affairs,” IOL quoted Duwayne Esau, the spokesperson for Home Affairs as saying.
Home Affairs aims to digitalise operations to support economic growth, security, and efficiency through automation.
In August Home Affairs Minister Leon Schreiber warned that the department’s outdated, manual systems made it vulnerable to fraud and corruption, calling for a complete digital transformation to address these issues.

“How can South Africa regard ourselves as a serious nation when we refuse to embrace something as simple as online applications, which will never even allow a user to click ‘submit’ if the application is not complete?,” the minister said at the time.
