Cape Town — The leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, Jaocb Zuma, is set to appeal his expulsion from the African National Congress (ANC) on Friday in a virtual sitting.
In a statement, the Jacob Zuma Foundation announced that the ANC and its National Disciplinary Committee of Appeals would hear his appeal against his expulsion.
“The appeal has been set down on a virtual platform against the wishes of H/E President Zuma. Accordingly, he has instructed his Cde Tony Yengeni that the first order of business must be his application for a physical and public appeal process and a few other preliminary objections which need to be decided before the appeal on the merits.” the Foundation said.

Zuma was expelled from the ANC in July and after the party’s National Disciplinary Committee (NDC) found that Zuma had compromsied the integrity of the ANC by aligning with the MK Party.
The party had accused Zuma of contravening rule 25 of the party’s constitution when he formed the MK Party in December last year. His actions to not campaign for the ANC during the elections were tantamount to a breach of the rule as per the party’s constitution.
Zuma publicly said he was still a member of the ANC during an MK media briefing last week, which the ANC’s Fikile Mbalula vehemently denied and said Zuma remained expelled until he could appeal the decision, which will take place tomorrow.
Zuma said he had sacrificed his life for the ANC and would die an ANC member, claiming those who exiled him do not know what exile is about.
“I have contributed to this ANC. If you listen to my terminology, I said I will die in the ANC,” Zuma said while acknowledging that he is a member of the MK party.
According to TimesLIVE, NDC members including Faith Muthambi, Nocawe Mafu, Robinson Ramaite, Kerensa Millard and Vusi Pikoli voted in favour of his expulsion.
The NDC argued Zuma’s misconduct was serious and his contribution to the liberation struggle could not detract from the decision to impose the sanction and expulsion.
