Cape Town – The Department of Home Affairs will revoke identity and travel documents of former Miss SA finalist Chidimma Adetshina and her mother, after they failed to respond to a deadline to keep their South African documents.
The department’s anti-corruption unit has referred the case, involving alleged fraud, to the Hawks, who are now awaiting guidance from the NPA.
“That matter is currently with the DPCI [Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation].
“They have concluded that investigation according to [Hawks head] General [Godfrey] Lebeya, they are now waiting for the NPA [National Prosecuting Authority] to advise them on the next steps,” Home Affairs director-general Tommy Makhode told the members of the Parliament’s Portfolio Committee on Tuesday.
He said that Adetshina and her mother might be facing fraud charges.
“It’s a case of fraud that’s been reported that the Hawks are pursuing against both the mom and herself.
The mother has not been located, though social media posts show her in Nigeria, where she attended Adetshina’s Miss Universe Nigeria win.
Adetshina is set to compete in the Miss Universe pageant in November.
