Cape Town – The Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court was evacuated on Tuesday following a bomb threat, prompting police, including the Explosives Unit, to secure the building.
Traffic police redirected vehicles, and all inmates were secured.
No injuries were reported, and the building was later declared safe, according to police spokesperson Colonel Robert Netshiunda.

“Relevant police disciplines, including the Explosives Unit officers, were dispatched from the Pietermaritzburg Magistrate’s Court following a bomb threat.
“All inmates were secured and the building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. No injuries were reported. The court building has now been declared safe,” The Citizen quoted Netshiunda as saying.
According to East Coast Radio, SAPS said that additional details will be provided as the investigation progresses.
