Cape Town – Former deputy police minister Bongani Mkongi has resigned from the ANC, announcing his decision on Facebook.
Mkongi, who has been involved with the ANC since the early 90s, said he believes he has given enough to the party.
He served as an ANC MP from 2004 and as deputy police minister between 2017 and 2019.
“I have decided to resign my being in the ANC and all its related structures and any other body that has alliance with the ANC,” the statement read.

He added: “I’ve spent my entire youthful life in the service of the ANC, 50 years of my life I spent in the ANC and all its formations. This is a very difficult time for me to take this drastic decision.”
Mkongi said he is now seeking a political home that aligns with the National Democratic Revolution (NDR), a key ideology of the ANC-led alliance.
His departure adds to a growing list of leaders disillusioned with the ANC’s direction.
