Cape Town – Bishops Diocesan College in Cape Town is facing a bullying scandal after a pupil was reportedly assaulted in a boarding house, resulting in his short-term hospitalisation.
According to Times Live, the school’s principal, Tony Reeler, confirmed the incident in a letter to parents, describing it as “shocking”.
“I do not want to prejudice this process in any way by commenting further on details of the assault or the ongoing appeals process, suffice to say any form of bullying or physical violence has absolutely no place at Bishops, and the conduct of the perpetrators here is condemned in the strongest possible terms, no matter what their role or intention,” the report quoted Reeler as saying.
Seven pupils were charged with violating the school’s Code of Conduct as well as its anti-bullying policy, IOL reported.
The school is taking disciplinary action, and additional security measures are being introduced in the boarding houses.
