Cape Town — The Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has not expressed any sorrow following the death of former Minister of Enterprises, Pravin Gordhan.
In a statement shared to X, the Red Berets said Gordhan’s legacy was intertwined with the destruction of state-owned enterprises (SOEs) and betraying South Africans.
“We cannot mourn counter-progressive forces that stood against the potential of building a successful, sovereign country that serves its people. Instead, we are reminded of the wreckage he leaves behind – wreckage that has ravaged the lives of ordinary South Africans,” EFF spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys, said.
The EFF also spoke about his “destructive role” in the struggle for liberation under former African National Congress (ANC) President, Oliver Tambo, when he was a aprt of the secret Indian cabal in the 1980s.
Gordhan also served two tenures as Minister of Finance under Jacob Zuma, and Minister of Enterprises under Cyril Ramaphosa, and was a key figure in the “notorious rogue unit” of the South African Revenue Services (SARS), which terrorised political rivals on behalf of “white monopoly”.

Matthys added that Gordhan was the embodiment of greed, corruption and elitism and said he was responsible for the disasters that occurred at Eskom and Transnet.
The EFF also condemned the infamous SAA-Takatso deal that Gordhan was responsible for, saying he sold the nation’s assets for personal interests and it was unable to be scrutinised as he avoided accountability thereof.
“His unchecked power allowed him to operate with impunity, and now he dies with his crimes unpunished. Every collapsed enterprise and every failure that left hundreds of thousands unemployed is part of Pravin Gordhan’s shameful legacy,” Matthys added.
She reiterated that the EFF refused to shed a tear for Gordhan, and would not celebrate any “false legacies” created by apologists. Instead, it will remember him for stifling growth and destroying the hopes of millions of South Africans, and his legacy will be one of failure, exploitation and corruption.
“May we never allow another Pravin Gordhan to rise again,” she concluded.
The EFF rejects Cyril Ramaphosa’s decision to grant Pravin Gordhan an official funeral.
