Cape Town — Another member of the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) has resigned, following in Floyd Shivambu’s footsteps. Mpho Morolane, who served as the president of the EFF Students Command, announced his resignation on Wednesday.
In his letter to EFF Secretary General Marshall Dlamini, Morolane said that it was a difficult decision to end his decade-long affiliation with the party.
“It is with great difficulty that one has decided to step away from a decade-long affiliation with the EFF. My service to the organisation has been with humility, integrity and respect,” he said.
Morolane said that he never intended to oppose the party, even when he felt challenged, and despite the pain he experienced during his tenure as student command president, he maintained respect for senior leaders.
He acknowledged the EFF’s significant role in radicalising the youth and producing quality youth leadership within government structures, and expressed gratitude for the party’s contribution to his growth as a political and social development leader.
@EFFSouthAfrica has been my political home for over a decade but one has taken a conscious decision to pursue a different path. Be rest assured we will forever be united in pursuit of the return of the land. pic.twitter.com/6RHiEog5lE

“It is undeniable that my time as a fighter has been invaluable and for me to unpack the lessons will require me to reduce same to pages of a book,” he added.
He said the EFF has always felt like home but the time had now come for him to make a conscious decision to pursue a different path. He said it was not an act of public opposition but a move for the progressive fight to restore dignity to the African people.
“I bid the organisation farewell, and it has left an inedible mark on my life,” he said.
According to TimesLIVE, Morolane is the second member of the EFF command team to leave the party, following former MP Mmabatho Makause.
Morolane caused some controversy when he suggested Mbuyiseni Ndlozi was the best candidate to lead the party at the 2026 local government elections, the report said.
His endorsement of Ndlozi fuelled speculation that there would be a contest for the position held by Marshall Dlamini.
