Cape Town – A 40-year-old Zambian national was arrested at OR Tambo International Airport, suspected of being a key figure in a kidnapping-for-ransom syndicate targeting South African businessmen.
“The suspect is linked to a kidnapping for ransom syndicate targeting businessmen and linked to the R300 million crystal meth drugs that were seized in Fourways three weeks ago,” police spokesperson Athlenda Mathe said.

The suspect, who is believed to be involved in the drug seizure, was apprehended by a multidisciplinary team and will face charges alongside eight other suspects.
Earlier this month, police rescued a businessman who had been kidnapped in July at a mosque in Helderkruin, Roodepoort.
Eight suspects, including three Tanzanian nationals, were arrested at the time in Johannesburg.
The businessman was rescued from a residence in Lenasia Mathe said.
