Cape Town – Former EFF MP Mzwanele Manyi and deputy president Floyd Shivambu have resigned from the Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) to join the newly formed Umkhonto Wesizwe (MK) Party.
According to EWN, Manyi claimed the MK Party was better positioned to combat what he viewed as “imperialists” and effectively implement land expropriation without compensation.
He argued that the MK Party was more prepared and had greater momentum compared to the EFF.
“MK Party is head and shoulders in terms of state of readiness to take over the country. You could see that this is a serious party with momentum,” the report quoted Manyi as saying.
Shivambu, who also left the EFF, did not reveal specific reasons for his move to the MK Party.
He announced his resignation from the party during a press briefing at the EFF headquarters in Johannesburg.
Shivambu, joined by EFF president Julius Malema and other party EFF leaders, read his resignation letter and announced that he will be joining the MK Party.
Malema described Shivambu’s departure as a significant loss and likened it to the death of his mother.
“When he (Shivambu) sent me a letter yesterday, I felt the same pain when I received the news of the passing away of my mother. Because Floyd to me is not just a comrade – is a bother and will remain a brother even when he pursues his political career differently.
