Cape Town — Minister in the Presidency, Khumbudzo Ntshaveni, said the government is on track to implement the country’s Energy Action Plan, which will improve the existing energy capacity in South Africa.
Speaking during a media briefing, Ntshaveni said the plan includes interventions to improve Eskom’s existing power stations and to add new energy generation to the grid, in a concerted effort to end load shedding. She said work has been done to overturn the embattled power utility, EWN reported.
Eskom now having gone more than 100 days without load shedding, meaning Eskom has not experienced any load shedding since the start of its financial year. It marks the first time since 2020 that Eskom has given the country such a big reprieve.
Eskom had previously announced that the Energy Availability Factor has improved over the past few weeks, which has improved the energy capacity.
Despite introducing load reduction last month to ease the load on the energy grid, Ntshaveni said there was hope that all energy struggles would come to an end.
