Cape Town –African National Congress (ANC) president Cyril Ramaphosa says his party should focus on promoting inclusive growth to generate jobs and alleviate poverty and inequality.
Ramaphosa was speaking during the opening of the ANC NEC Lekgotla in Boksburg on Sunday.
“The task of this #ANCNECLekgotla is therefore to set out the work we need to do at this moment. We need to determine the work we must do in these circumstances, to build a strong, growing and inclusive economy that protects workers rights and offers endless opportunities & livelihoods to the people as a whole,” he said.

Ramaphosa highlighted the stagnation of South Africa’s economy, with a 1.2% average annual GDP growth rate from 2010 to 2024, which is below the population growth rate.
“Together as the Alliance, we must confront the fact that our economy has barely grown over the last 14 years. Between 2010 to 2024, the average annual GDP growth rate was 1.2% a year. This was lower than the rate of population growth over that period,” he said.
The meeting, attended by ministers, deputy ministers, premiers, and executive mayors, focused on job creation, strengthening local government, and holding ANC officials accountable.
The discussions aimed to refine and expand the party’s key priorities for the 2024 elections.
