Cape Town – Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader Julius Malema has renewed his pledge to build low-cost government housing, known as RDP houses, in the Afrikaans-only town of Orania in the Northern Cape.
Speaking at a rally in Kimberley on Saturday, Malema declared that the town will be part of South Africa’s future under EFF leadership.
“Orania belongs to us. When we take over the Northern Cape and South Africa, we will build RDP houses in Orania and send our people to go stay there.
“Northern Cape is our land. It belongs to us. No one will sell the Northern Cape, not to the Boer or the colonisers. The Northern Cape will be returned to the hands of Africans.”
In May’s election, the EFF received only one vote in Orania. In the 2019 national elections, the party garnered 21 votes, which was 3% of the total at the Orania Volkskool voting station.
Malema also predicted the collapse of the Government of National Unity (GNU) and accused it of betraying South Africans, calling for a government that truly represents the people.
