Cape Town – A South African trade delegation, led by Minister Parks Tau, successfully lobbied in the US for the renewal of the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA).
During the 21st AGOA Forum, they received support from President Biden and Congress for extending AGOA, aiming for a 16-year renewal, a statement from Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC) said on Saturday.
“We welcome the support expressed by both the Biden Administration and members of Congress for the renewal of AGOA,” Tau said.

The delegation also advocated for enhanced trade relations and the revival of the Trade and Investment Framework Agreement (TIFA).
Despite concerns about South Africa’s geopolitical stance, the visit reinforced its key trade relationship with the US and highlighted the benefits of AGOA for South African exports and job creation.
I participated in the Business Roundtable with the @USChamber, reaffirming South Africa’s foreign policy under the GNU. Committed to deepening US-SA trade & investment ties. Outlined the 7th Administration’s priorities & advocated for extending AGOA beyond 2025 with key reforms. pic.twitter.com/7cKrosvLyZ
