Cape Town — The Jacob Zuma Foundation said it could not rule out the possibility that the leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party, Jacob Zuma, could be assassinated.
The fears come after an assassination attempt was made on former USA President, Donald Trump, who was shot at a rally last week. Trump was shot in the ear when he moved his head just milliseconds before the gunman fired his weapon.
In response to Trump’s shooting, President Cyril Ramaphosa condemned the attack on Trump and said it served as a stark reminder of the dangers of political intolerance.
“Political violence is the antithesis of democracy. I wish former President Trump a speedy recovery,” he said.
The spokesperson for the Zuma Foundation, Mzwanele Manyi, said on X that the foundation has been “mulling” over the failed assassination attempt of Trump.
“Evil plans to do the same to Prez Zuma cannot be ruled out. The foundation is urging the Presidency to enhance government-provided security measures to ensure President Zuma’s safety,” Manyi said.

The concerns over Zuma’s safety were highlighted when he was involved in a car accident while travelling with his private security in March. He escaped unharmed but the party was concerned that he was being targeted. The party said at the time that it was not Zuma’s first car accident.
“Two car accidents in the space of a year and a half, both accidents committed by purported “drunk drivers” who manage to drive directly into President Zuma’s motorcade. This looks like a deliberate attempt to assassinate President Zuma.”
He was also the victim of alleged death threats from an academic.
