Cape Town — Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) leader, Julius Malema, has denied the allegations that he was involved in any shady dealings with the VBS Mutual Bank.
Malema’s comments come after the bank’s former boss, Tshifwa Matodzi, implicated Malema and EFF deputy, Floyd Shivambu, in illicit activities at the bank, which included the duo pocketing R16.1 million through a front company.
However, Malema denied any involvement with VBS through an X post. He uploaded a picture of himself in his Durban July tuxedo and wrote a cryptic caption.
“For any inquiries, please refer to the archives for answers,” he said.

As reported by SABC News, the EFF have said the affidavit is unfounded and misleading and EFF spokesperson, Leigh-Ann Mathys says their party is being harassed.
“Look there is no change to our statement on VBS. So if you want a response go to your archives. But how about you also allocate the same energy and double your energy on Cyril Ramaphosa for money that was hidden in his sofas at his Phala-Phala farm? This obsession of forcing EFF into VBS corruption is just plain down harassment now,” she said.
According to EWN, Mtodzi has not only targeted the EFF as the affidavit said several other prominent political leaders also had a role in the collapse of VBS.
These include South African Communist Party secretary, Jacob Mamabolo, former African National Congress (ANC) Limpopo treasurer, Danny Msiza, ANC treasurer general, Zeli Mkhize, and former Treasury director-general, Dondo Mogjane.
Analyst Lukhona Mguni said that the leaked affidavit should be seen as the first compelling form of evidence taken under oath and law enforcement authorities should test the allegations.
Despite what Malema’s said, opposition parties, ActionSA and the DA have urgently called for an urgent probe into Malema and his alleged involvement.
The DA has written to the Portfolio Committee on Police chairperson Ian Cameron to provide clarity on delays in the VBS corruption matter.
