Cape Town – Parliamentary leader of the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party John Hlophe, has been appointed to represent Parliament on the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).
This decision follows a motion passed by the National Assembly endorsing his nomination.
Hlophe will now join other members like DA MP Glynnis Breytenbach and Julius Malema on the JSC.

According to The South African, recent criticism of the decision to appoint Hlophe to the JSC stemmed from the commission’s role in his removal as a judge.
Formerly serving as judge president of the Western Cape, Hlophe was impeached by MPs of the sixth Parliament, leading to his formal removal by President Cyril Ramaphosa in March.

In 2008, Constitutional Court justices Chris Jafta and Bess Nkabinde accused Hlophe of attempting to influence them in a case involving Zuma before the ConCourt.
Eleven justices of the ConCourt lodged a formal complaint, alleging that Hlophe had separately visited them in their chambers to discuss pending judgments related to corruption cases against Zuma, TimesLIVE reported at the time.
Subsequently, in April 2021, a tribunal inquiry found Hlophe guilty of gross misconduct, a decision that was later upheld by the Judicial Service Commission in August 2021, according to Judges Matter.
