Cape Town — Patriotic Alliance (PA) leader, Gayton McKenzie, has said that the Democratic Alliance (DA) have pushed their Government of National Unity (GNU) partner, the African National Congress (ANC) too far.
As the negotiations continue over ministerial and cabinet positions, the ANC President Cyril Ramaphosa wrote a scathing letter to the DA, criticising the party for “moving the goalposts” over cabinet positions, and admonished the DA for preferring written correspondence over face-to-face negotiations.
“Matters of national importance, such as these, are best conducted in face-to-face negotiations. Only when both sides agree that the discussions between them have reached a level of maturity and advance should they be reduced to writing, to live up to the principle of transparency.” Ramaphosa said.

According to TimesLIVE, fellow GNU partner, Gayton McKenzie, responded to Ramaphosa’s letter and said the DA has pushed the ANC too far.
“The ANC has been pushed too far by the DA. The letter from President Ramaphosa is direct and that of a man who wants a solution [despite] people hell-bent on humiliating the ANC and wanting to insert themselves as the new leaders of South Africa and the GNU. His letter is the most polite f**k you ever.” McKenzie said.
He was concerned that the negotiations between the GNU’s biggest parties, the ANC and DA, were causing a vacuum in the GNU. He said the latest letter from Ramaphosa implies an agreement is close.
“It’s has been an up and down with a lot of letters leaked. I do think with the latest letter from the president that this circus is leaving town, and we are close to a solution or agreement in the GNU.” he added.
McKenzie said he hoped the talks would conclude on Friday, paving the way for a cabinet announcement to be made soon.
