Cape Town — Ten people have died, while a further 24 suffered injuries after a horrific crash involving a minibus taxi and a bus truck on the R42 in Delmas, Mpumalanga.
It is reported that of the 10 casualties, eight were from the minibus taxi, and the other two were travelling in the truck.
The 24 injured passengers were rushed to a nearby hospital, Mpumalanga Community Safety spokesperson, Moeti Mmusi, said the cause the accident is unknown at this stages, but an investigation is already underway, The Citizen reported.
“The deceased include the driver of the minibus taxi. The victims were declared dead at the scene. About 24 people sustained serious injuries, 18 of the injured were occupants in the bus truck, and six were in the minibus taxi. The injured were transported to the nearby hospitals.” Mmusi said.

According to IOL, Mmusi indicated that the minibus taxi was travelling along the N12 from Johannesburg and veered onto the R42, and was making its way back to the N12 when the crash happened. The bus truck was driving from towards Bronkhorstspruit.
Mpumalanga MEC for Community Safety, Security and Liaison, Jackie Macie has expressed a shock at this horrific crash, saying motorists must be cautious at all times when on the road.
“It is sad to see so many people losing their lives on the road. We are appealing for greater caution on the part of drivers to avoid these tragedies,” Macie said.
